Canada Super Visa application allows eligible parents and grandparents of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada to visit their family and stay in Canada up to two years at a time without needed to renew their visa status. The Super Visa allows its holder for a multiple entry to Canada for a period of 10 years. The Super Visa was created for the purpose to lengthen the time that parents and grandparents could stay with their loved ones.

Canada Super Visa is different from a multiple entry visa. A Multiple Entry Visa only has a status period of six months for each visit. If the visitor wishes to stay longer must apply for an extension and pay a new fee. While for the Super Visa, as mentioned above, eligible parents and grandparents allows individuals to stay in Canada for two years without having to renew their status.

Before you apply for a Super Visa, make sure to provide the following documents:

• Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
• A letter of invitation from your child or grandchild who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada that includes:
  • a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
  • the list and number of people in the household of this person
  • a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
• Proof that your child or grandchild’s household meets the minimum necessary income
  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
  • Employment Insurance stub
  • Employment letter including salary and date of hiring
  • Pay stubs
  • Bank statements
• Have a medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company
  • That is valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry
  • With at least $100,000 coverage
  • Proof that the medical insurance has been paid
• A document confirming that you had an immigration medical examination

Other Conditions to consider when applying for Super Visa:

• Show the purpose of their visit
• Show their finances in their home country
• Demonstrate ties of their home country
• The overall economic and political stability of your home country

Processing Time
Once documents are completed and successfully submitted, most applicants for a Super Visa are processed within a few weeks or less. The processing time will also vary depending on the country you are from.

• Super Visa holders are not allowed to work or enroll in any part-time or full-time studies in Canada
• They are also not allowed to get Canadian documents or Canadian benefits such as health care coverage
• You are only allowed to bring your spouse or common law partner to Canada with you with the Super Visa
• Other children or grandchildren must apply for Visitor Visa separately
